Where?
The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is the voice of organised civil society in Europe.The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions and information reports a year. It also organises several annual initiatives and events with a focus on civil society and citizens’ participation such as the Civil Society Prize, the Civil Society Days, the Your Europe, Your Say youth plenary and the ECI Day.
When/For how long?
Twice a year the European Economic and Social Committee offers traineeships for a period of five months to university graduates (long-term traineeship). These traineeships can only take place during one of the two following periods: from 16 February to 15 July (spring session) or from 16 September to 15 February of the following year (autumn session). Apply between 3 January and 31 March for the autumn session. Apply between 1 July and 30 September for the spring session (starting the following year).
In addition, the EESC can offer short, paid traineeships of one, two or three months to university students for whom such a traineeship is compulsory for the completion of their studies.(short-term traineeship).Short-term traineeships may start on the 1st or 16th of a given month except July and August. There is no deadline for applying to short-term traineeships, but there shall be a minimum of two months between the submission of an application and the start of a short-term traineeship. The initial length of such traineeships may not be extended.

For whom/what qualifications are requested?
In order to be accepted for a short-term traineeship, the applicants must:
be studying at university or a higher education establishment;
have a thorough command of one EU language and a satisfactory command of another, one of which must be English or French for operational reasons;
be a national of a Member State of the European Union. However, a limited number of nationals of non-Member States may also be accepted on condition that the applicant fulfils all legal requirements concerning work and/or residence permits in Belgium.
In order to be accepted for a short-term traineeship, the applicants must:
have a thorough command of one EU language and a satisfactory command of another, one of which must be English or French for operational reasons;
be a national of a Member State of the European Union. However, a limited number of nationals of non-Member States may also be accepted on condition that the applicant fulfils all legal requirements concerning work and/or residence permits in Belgium.
Is this a paid internship?
Yes, trainees who have been offered a long-term or a short-term traineeship are entitled to a maintenance grant.
Long-term trainees are given a monthly grant in accordance with the provisions regarding traineeships at the EESC. For long-term traineeships taking place within the time period 16/02/2024 – 15/02/2025 the amount of the grant is a lump sum of 1.376,89 EUR per month. The amount will remain unchanged until the end of the 2024 Autumn session (15/02/2025).
Short-term trainees get a monthly grant corresponding to 50% of the monthly amount granted to long-term trainees.
