Policy Intern at the European Cyclist's Federation

The European Cyclists’ Federation (ECF) is a civil society organisation advocating for more and better cycling. They aim to promote cycling as a sustainable and healthy means of transportation. With over 60 member organisations from over 40 countries, they constitute a voice for cycling at the pan-European level. The ECF is based in Brussels and has their roots in Europe, but they aspire to meet world-wide challenges as the world’s largest and best-known cyclists advocacy organisation. This will require you to live and work in Belgium during the Internship.
When/for how long?
Starting late January/early February 2024, the internship will last around 26 weeks.
What?
As an intern you will assist the advocacy team with doing research and policy analysis, and with lobbying the EU institutions to fulfil the our mission. You will have an opportunity to apply and develop your abilities and interests in advocacy and research focused on sustainable mobility and cycling. Your line manager will be the Director for Advocacy and EU Affairs.

You may have to:
- Analyse how the Road Infrastructure Safety Management Directive (EU) 2019/1936 has been transposed into national law by EU Member States
- Carry out research with the aim of producing a factsheet on how European countries deal with the issue of segregating/ mixing pedestrians and cyclists in an urban, suburban as well as rural context.
- Assist in ECF’s 2024 parliamentary election campaign
- Help in the organisation of (online) events
- Prepare meetings and take minutes
- Assist ECF staff with reporting duties on EU projects.
For whom/what qualifications are requested?
- Strong interest in transport policy
- Knowledge in EU affairs
- Bachelor or Master’s degree, or be in your final year(s) to obtain your masters
- Excellent English
- Excellent research skills
- Strong writing skills
- Good time management
- Solid knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Ability to self-organise and multi-task
- Ability to pay attention to detail, and take initiative in problemsolving
- Other languages are an asset
- Experience in policy analysis
- Managing multiple tasks Computer literate (MS office, internet tools, social media) Personal/ Other
- Interest and ability to work in a diverse cross-cultural environment
- Share commitment to ECF’s values

- Your CV
- Assignment: Write a one-page letter to a fictive MEP candidate from the constituency you reside in running for the European Parliament elections in June 2024. Convince the candidate to express his support to measures ECF has advocated for, such as in our 2019 European Parliament elections manifesto [We are still working on the 2024 edition]. Due to the large number of applications, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for an online interview
