About the Max van der Stoel Foundation and Africa Day
On 18 November 2023, the Max van der Stoel Foundation will again organise the annual Africa Day. The Foundation Max van der Stoel (FMS) is the independent foreign affairs foundation of the PvdA. We campaign for democratisation abroad, for fairer Dutch policy towards developing countries, and stimulate public debate on these issues. For 25 years, we have organised the annual Africa Day. With over 1,000 visitors, speakers, volunteers and partner organisations, it is the largest public event on Africa in the Netherlands. The day consists of workshops, lectures, talks, films, and music.
What does this position entail?
As an intern, you will contribute to the organisation of the Africa Day 2023, together with the responsible project manager. These are your main tasks:
You will work four days a week (28 hours), partly at our office in The Hague and partly at home. The period runs from July 2023 to November 2023. Exact start and end dates will be determined in consultation.

An instructive internship in a small and young team, with good supervision and the freedom to put your own ideas for workshops, debates and the culture programme into practice. You will gain experience within a political foundation, get to know the main Dutch development organisations and get to know Dutch and European politics better. The internship allowance is €450 per month if you are enrolled at a Dutch higher education institution. Otherwise, a volunteer's allowance applies.

- Liaise with 30+ civil society organisations and speakers - such as politicians, experts, and activists - participating in Africa Day
- Communication around and promotion of Africa Day via online channels and social media
- Supporting the content and organisational preparation of various workshops and debates

What do we like to see in you?
- You enjoy organising activities, and also like to think about content;
- You have an affinity with international issues and development cooperation (knowledge of Africa is a plus);
- You understand, or want to understand, Dutch politics around these issues;
- You have a good command of the English language;
- You love connecting with people and are good at communication (affinity with social media is a plus);
- You are independent and enterprising, but also enjoy working in a team.
